How to Change the Default Browser on Your iPhone

Much attention to browser tracking and privacy these days, and particularly out of this new NY Times story, https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/31/technology/personaltech/online-privacy-private-browsers.html?

iPhone users have to feel good that Safari has built in tracking avoidance, but for even greater protection, the NY Times piece rates Brave highly as an alternative.

Here is how to change the default browser on your iPhone, using the Brave browser as an example.

First, download a browser, eg, Brave from the iPhone app store.  https://apps.apple.com/us/app/brave-private-web-browser-vpn/id1052879175

1. Then, in settings, scroll down to the Brave app. Click on Default Browser App to change the default browser on your iPhone.

2. This shows which browser apps are on your #iPhone.  Select Brave.

3. Select Back. Now you’ll see Brave as the default web browser on your iPhone.

From now on, when using your iPhone, if you click on a url link, e.g. in an email, it will open in Brave.

This is easy to change back: just folltoow Steps 1 & 2 above. But definitely try out much more private and less ad directed web browsing.
